I can understand Jim, not having any row crop acres, but if it’s that dry surely the corn will be coming off now, or soon? Why not push harvest a little and get them on stalks?
As expensive as hay is this year, I’m pondering selling off some of my stash and replacing it with gluten. Stretch the stalks that way, and get enough protein into the spring calves without wasting expensive alfalfa hay.
