I hope someone responds to your post as I just bought a S780 as well and the spacers are on top, not installed where I’m accustomed to seeing them. They have been used at some point because the paint is worn off them. I recall they were an improvement back in the 50 series to keep from breaking the cobs up and having them in the grain tank.
