Subject: a business to run?

Seymour, IL
Terry
It has been awhile since we have had a chance to chat......

I try to incorporate the best 'soil health' principles I know
However, currently this does not include cover crops.... in a row crop situation I cannot find a way to make them competitive on a cash basis
there are multiple studies of how this is not just me identifying this problem.... If I had livestock, the feed values may make a very different result. Competitive advantage is real in this business.... and I cannot just make open ended investments with no known payoff. (especially on rented farms)

I do utilize conservation tillage, try to provide removal rates of fertilizers (and comply with the good husbandry aspects of the farm lease)
I am trying to do the best i can....

I have friends who run around with their hair on fire when I talk about wanting to use economic and financial measures of soil health.... they keep telling me you cannot consider this from a business perspective. I respectfully disagree.

The decisions made on owned ground would be different as I have a different planning horizon.
I know the work you have done, the results you have achieved, and truly respect that.

I hope nothing but the best for you as you continue with those changes.
cheers
bryon
