Subject: RE: "Soil Health" principles

southern MN
Now we are seeing heavy insect pressure from quite a bit of corn on corn here locally in the last decade. My local dirt favors corn over soybean yields. So many of us have dabbled in 2/3 to 4/5 corn acres. Traits, insecticides, not keeping up 100%.

The insect and disease pressures finally built up, so we are back to 50% or more beans.

The chase for the perfect crop rotation! Ha. Wish we had 3 crops that did well and provided the same rate of return; but we don’t even have 2.

Do weeds count in providing the green growth and diversity needed for soil health, how ever that term is defined? I’m good then!

Interesting topic, it’s harder to define and apply from one farm to the next on what is actually the goal and how to get there.
