We used to rip at least once per rotation. One year a buddy talked me into not ripping a part of a field as a trial. I haven’t done Any ripping since that one trial. My crops are getting better every year and seem to have much more drought tolerance without ripping.

Edit- we’ve replaced the ripper with a chisel and that has seemed to work great.
