Guess we live in part of Iowa that sees that type of variance 7-9 years out of 10. The best explanation I can give, is the area of the field that didn't run out of moisture had a lot of sun this summer. With few rain events you end up with a lot of lumens being cloud free. We often see 0-300+ on a dry year and say average 150....but on a normal season may average 175 but the swing is 120-240. Funny how averages are made.


Too many throw out years like this, but if you want really good maps of where soil water holding potential is at, this year is a homerun. Typically not for pushing the top, but more for cutting the bottom.
