While there are a few that think that way I think it would be more accurate to say that most people feel that an EV won’t work for every situation that they would need their vehicle for.
Personally I think that an EV would be a perfect fit for my wife 90% or the time but I know that for the other 10% of the time she would need to take my ICE powered truck and then that would leave me without the vehicle I would need. I suspect that many people are that way. Owning vehicles is expensive enough and any benefit from owning an EV would be quickly overcome if it would require an additional ICE vehicle for the other 10% of the time. They definitely have the potential to get there, but they currently do have some significant limitations.
You described my situation pretty well, except the EV would probably be a good fit only 80% of the time.
If they are available, and budget allows, I would really like to look into a plug in hybrid. Could run electric and charge at home 80% of the time, could fill it at the gas station for the other 20%. To me it seems like a no brainer, and a good way to make converts out of people resisting electric. However, for some reason, plug in hybrids are frowned upon by many. |
