Western Ontario | No offence taken! We’re in pretty different environments. We’re right beside Lake Huron, can see it from a couple farms. -30 isn’t a lot of fun but we don’t mind it, everything is froze up and dry, might go through a little extra feed but not a big deal. What’s really hard on cattle is just above freezing and rain or wet snow, we have to have really big ribbed easy fleshing cows because that weather will peel the pounds right off them and can go on for weeks. We can get that crap from mid November to mid April. Our May calving cows never see a barn, they live in the bush all winter, winter calving cows stay in the bush till a couple weeks before their due date, just easier to keep clean, less bedding and better for them to have lots of room to move. We figure on 2 acres of grass per pair from May to mid October. Bull calf pic is from the start of July and a few pics of our front pasture princesses. Lol
