Speaking of dumb, I had a cow rub on one and shut it completely off. The cows aren't normally around the hydrant but was moving one that was close to calving. It was cold weather and the next day I discovered the hydrant didn't work. I just assumed it froze up. It took me till spring warm up to figure out what happened.
