Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan

Ideally.....

Plant within a week of your Hessian Fly Free Date.

If a respectable tillering variety.... plant no more than 1.2 million seeds, if planting within a week of your Fly Free date.

Irrigated-good fertility-well drained field.... yield goal of at least 150.  At least.

Apply fertilizer, coupled with soil test results... to match your yield goal.  All macros of course, but also sulfur and micronutrients.

Fungicide applications are a must... in my opinion.   Flag leaf and flowering are a priority.   Flag leaf represents as much as 70% of yield.   Needs to be protected.   Fungicide at flowering protects quality and also provides yield enhancement.

Consider fall herbicide... pre and/or post.

Strongly consider a PGR like Palisade to strengthen and shorten straw.   We've been pleased with its performance.

If you're serious about maximizing your wheat production.... purchase Phil Needham's books on wheat production.   Googling his name will get you to his "store" for purchase.

good luck,

gordon
