Southeast WI | I've been at this over 30+ years since getting out of college in 1990 and started farming mostly on my own. You are right that necessity drove adoption to minimal tillage to notill and some strip till as I could afford to adapt that practice for corn on corn or even corn on beans on those really wet acres. Didn't have Daddy's backing on anything so made do - and less is a lot more most of the time.
I hope you're right on the next generation adopting as this generation (mine) has been slow to change. To me it's exciting to see the changes where 15-20 years ago there was an abrupt change in crop growth once you moved up hills to poor gravel soil and now after years of covers and especially notill I don't see those abrupt good to bad lines. | |
