Latimer Iowa | It seems like, here, it’s going to take the owners of the land wanting different soil health practices to really see a change. I see changes as some of our landlords of 70 and older pass away, their kids are either wanting to sell to us or have more sustainable practices. We have put our name on 600 acres and a good crop share landlord another 300 in the past 2 years at fair private values. The sellers have all put some focus on sustainable practices in selling to us instead of auctioning. On the other hand, the field in pictures that was oats with the nice covers and roots, the lease was terminated this year. I was paying over 400, they wanted more, it was rented it to someone that will rip it up for a few bucks more then I would pay. They just cared how much cash they could get in the short term. Sucks for me, will suck for their kids, and sucks for the land, no till and covers were not a consideration at all for them. Still a bit annoyed by that one and venting a bit but closing on a 200 next week and good landlord just called adding another quarter. Will just be a lot of manure, covers, and work getting them in shape. | |
