swohio | Great pictures, tells the story really well. I'm like most others and am lucky to have 6-8" top soil, have many clay knobs, tillage got rid of the little bit of top soil it had. Been no-tilling a long time and been using covers for a while now, still not been able to get everything covered but working toward that. Getting very dry here, .14" of rain last night first in 2 weeks, very lucky 2 weeks ago got 1.5-2" and that saved us. Even with no-til and covers, just don't have ground that can withstand long dry spells, the hope is too that the covers can get roots down deep for the corn and bean roots to follow even into clay subsoil, beans are holding up very well so far, but like everyone else sure would like a good rain to finish them off. | |
