There is some value in pulling ears.  But the value is very minor compared to harvest yield and harvest evaluation.  Harvest evaluation of stalk strength, root strength, test weight, moisture content, and so forth.  But yield is easily the number one consideration.   Personally, I don't understand how looking at a dozen or so ears of corn, out of the tens of thousands that are in an acre of corn.... can really tell us all that much.   But that's just me.

No kidding easy to find the nicest ears to display.  Honestly most years I have a plot winner picked out and I’m wrong.   Back to the OP I’d like to see how his plot on light ground would have faired here.
