Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | To use a SteerCommand Z2 or Steady Steer, you will need an InCommand 1200, InCommand 800 or Guidance only InCommand 800. The Guidance only InCommand 800 is a crippled version of the previous InCommand 800 and will only work with steering or guidance. This display replaces the Compass display for those folks who are only interested in steering. The unit can be unlocked later if planting, spraying or application tasks are desired.
I had a legacy Steer Command (non Z2) in my Deere 8310R steering via the Deere CAN system for several years. It worked well for planting. I traded the legacy Steer Command for a Steer Command Z2 two years ago. It dropped right in. I did need to do a steering calibration which is very easy since the onscreen prompts guide you every step of the procedure. It was used for planting last year with an Ag Leader GPS 6500 and Terra Star. This year I traded the 6500 toward a 7500 with TerraStar C Pro. It worked very well and has a much faster convergence time among other things.
I also use Ag Leader's Steady Steer assisted steering in my Deere 9770 combine. The InCommand from the planting tractor and GPS 7500 are moved to the Hagie sprayer and then to the combine for harvesting. This works well also although there are some planter drift issues at times on side hills. The combine follows the AB planting lines but since the planter has some side draft, the combine is not perfectly centered on the rows.
I do not have specific experience in going from SteerCommand non Z2 to SteerCommand Z2 in a vehicle with an external steering valve. I do have an older Deere 8120 that has an external steering valve but that tractor has not been changed and continues with the older Steer Command. I would be surprised if SteerCommand Z2 would not work with it. The 8120 was the planting tractor when it was new but is now mainly the grain cart tractor so auto steering is not involved.
