In Texas the irrigated acres may go up because of corn acres switching to cotton, but the available water supplies are declining. The panhandle's water table is dropping at a rapid pace. On the other hand varieties are getting better at producing better yields and quality on less water. Many acres of cotton in Texas is dryland.
