Subject: GDAD, yes I agree

So Trails West is a soild business, I used to sell their trailers back in the 80's while I worked at Ellis. However our main gravy was our building division selling them buildings and expansion of their facilities. They made solid trailers, however more in line with just horse market. In or around in 2000's they started a standard no frills stock trailer, one color and one design. I bought a 24' in early 07' production. In the G/N nose mine started to buckle. My dealer took right back to factory and they repaired it. Did a good job, however it wasn't a full year and my floor got weak in it.

I pulled mats and found out they put all 16' lumber in back 2/3's of trailer. Put all 8' boards in front compartment. They should have staggered them to give strength. I had hauled a load of bulls and they broke it loose in front 8'. So they UPS shipped me more angle iron to rebuild it. I re-floored it and then listed it for sale. Only owning it a year. Also had problems with rear latches, as they tried a production latch it was prone to braking. I sold trailer within one hour of listing to a guy in Wyoming. I ran into the truck and trailer in trip to Colorado this summer, still pulling it.

They have found their niche in just fancy horse trailers, with living quarters and snowmoblie trailers. Sure nice, I can't justify 50-60 grand for a sled trailer.

I got to tell you the story on owner's wife, while I was on school board we were at meetings and my wife and I got acquainted with going to dinner one night. She told me how her husband would show up to plant early in morning and spread trash in parking lot. The go to his office and watch out of window when employees showed up to work. People that picked up trash he called in and gave pay raises. I always thought that was a novel approach to rewarding employees.

One thing about them, they do a good job on painting and using galvanized steel.
