Subject: RE: Niman Ranch

Sperry, Iowa
We did wean to finish for a few years (400 head/yr) and loved the program. But you really got to watch your feed costs. We discovered in our area along the Mississippi River in Iowa that our corn/soybean basis was a lot higher than the Missouri River side of Iowa that they use for there corn pricing matrix. They base their Soybean Meal from Central Illinois. I recently talked to a couple other large Niman Producers who said when they first started yrs ago they would profit $25hd and now it's down to $8-10hd.
