If putting up a hay barn, what kind of floor would be best? Just lay bales on dirt, a harder base such as clay, sand...etc.? Also thought about laying a row of pallets down and stacking on those. That way has some air movement under them. Thoughts? Thanks!

Believe it or not, asphalt floor. It's what I have in my 64'x120' hay shed (80' anyhow). Hard to wrap my head around at first, then I thought what do they put on the outside of concrete basement walls to stop water? Not much difference between asphalt and tar w/aggerate mixed in, IMHO. You need to stop the water migration from below up into the hay. I don't store any hay on the 40' of concrete for more than a few hours. Mold will start in less than a week.

Pallet will work (because of air space, stopping/breaking the water migration), but moving them is a pain somewhere for me anyhow.
