| Yup. You'll see some combines rolling in 10 days in NE Iowa. Harvesting popcorn kernels and BB's! Stalk integrity is in jeopardy due to cannibalism of the stalk to try and save the ear. It's been a slow painful death with a rapid pace to the grave this past week for this 2023 crop... you name it ... corn, beans, hay and pastures! Not much moisture in sight with upper 90's to 100 this coming weekend and low to mid 90's all next week. How much moisture a day can you lose with those conditions? Good weather in a typical early fall scenario can drop 1 point a day with temps not close to these! For those chopping it is getting too dry too fast also. Have never seen a finish to a crop this terrible in my 40+ years of farming |
