Subject: RE: Ag Leader for Yield Monitoring and Steering in JD S6XX Combines

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have a Deere 9770 with an InCommand 1200 for yield monitoring/mapping. Last year I installed Ag Leader's Steady Steer assisted steering. The AB lines are based on GPS.

Over winter I noticed an ad for a holdover Truesight 2 system. This system uses feelers on the corn head to control the Steady Steer Motor. I agreed to purchase the unit and received it last February. Included with the unit were some advertising brochures for the other products that the Headsight folks (makers of the Truesight) produced. One brochure showed using the Truesight 2 system with feelers for use with a sprayer for late season applications. It consisted of an arm that was lowered that contained a feeler system for use with a sprayer.

I had some questions for Tech support and called them. I asked about using the Truesight 2 system on a sprayer. The Tech mentioned that this product was no longer offered since the company had been purchased by Precision. The higher ups at Precision didn't want to pursue feeler based sprayer guidance. He was surprised that I had received the advertising brochure. When I explained that my kit was a holdover that explained things because at the time my kit was assembled, the sprayer feeler system was still an option.

It is my understanding that the feeler system only worked with integrated steering and wasn't offered for the assisted steering system such as Steady Steer anyway.

I have heard rumors that Ag Leader is working with a camera based system for steering based on viewing the crop rather than GPS based AB lines. The combine or sprayer would then be steered based on the actual rows rather than GPS lines. This would be helpful to overcome the inevitable planter drift that I experience at times.
