EC SoDak | I guess I don’t agree with that on corn, at least with half ways decent soil and some other environmental or managerial factors. Unless it’s hyper stressed on poor soil or a terrible hybrid, these hybrids will still give you a decent ear to work with, even if the corn is short. So it’s likely more of a post pollination situation where you lose kernels that’s the killer, which is after mid/late June IMHO. That’s why places like the I States are being pegged with decent yields through multiple sources when based on stand and kernel counts at the moment. I would say between continued dryness, poorer soils, and the horrendous finish much of the belt is seeing, yes areas with issues, yields will likely be lower, mine included. But in decent soils, a dry June wasn't the main problem, which is what multiple western belt folks have been saying for months. Heck, wasn’t the eastern belt below normal temps on average for the first 2-3 months of the growing season? | |
