I have also heard stories that these rims are not very stable unless they are actually bolted to the trailer. That would mean carrying one around could be a little bit dangerous I guess. Is there any truth to that or is that just people talking?
Internet falsehoods abound!!! Those lock ring rims (they are NOT split rims) don't care if they are bolted on or not. Just think of every 3/4 ton pick up ever sent out of Detroit for untold years that had lock ring rims. Ever hear of the spare tire under the bed ever blowing up for no reason?
