Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I have an iPad Pro (older) and iPhones. I have charging issues at times also. With my iPhone, I tend to carry it in my pocket where the lightning plug in the phone tends to get built up with debris. I find that with it, I need to clean the area occasionally. I break the end off of a round toothpick so the end is a bit thicker and use a small piece of cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the inner contacts. This is not much of a problem in that respect with the iPad as it has an Otter box case with a cover over the lightning port.
The iPad takes more energy with the larger screen etc. I have noticed that when I try to charge it via USB on my desktop computer that the iPad indicates that it is not charging. It actually is charging but at a very slow rate.
Does your iPad seem to charge properly with a wall charger? It would be useful to know if the problem is the iPad, the cable or the charging source.
I am not familiar with the layout when using an iPad with a 20/20. A different power source might be an option. However if the data is being transferred to the iPad via a data cable at all times while in use then that is not an option. If this is the situation, then the output of the 20/20 must be improved or repaired. Reducing the brightness should help reduce the load on the battery. Maybe setting the brightness quite low would be acceptable.
I use an iPad in my combine but not with a 20/20. I use my iPad with Ag Leader's AgFiniti mobile app. My data is transferred from my InCommand 1200 to the iPad wirelessly and as a "batch". This means my iPad does not need to be "on and awake" while harvesting but only when I wish to view something or when the data is transferred as a batch when I move to a different field.
I could charge my iPad and/or iPhone off of the USB ports on my Ag Leader InCommand 1200 but instead I installed a USB charging port in the combine. These are available in different configurations. I use the one in the link below. I mounted it in a small plastic box with double faced tape. It is wired to a key switched terminal from my Deere Power Strip. If you have a blank rectangular cutout available, this style will snap right in. I have replaced the lighter ports in some tractors and my lawnmower with the round wired style. These are more reliable than the plug in lighter types. Usually that is very easy to do since power/ground are right there already.
