south central IL | As you well know potential goes down with every issue, big or small, kinda like death by a thousand cuts. Who knows which one is the one that actually pushes it over the edge. I have black ground with very high yield potential that’s going to yield less than some lighter soils due to better timing of the rain and a long history of manure application. It actually takes more money per acre to grow a crop on the black soil due to land costs and four times the real estate taxes. That being said if we had the same rain on the light soil it would be pretty ugly. I guess what I’m saying is that I sure don’t know the soils that everyone farms and how rainfall affects them at any given point without a lot more information. I also know that there are people from everywhere in every occupation that over exaggerate things and make mountains out of molehills. | |
