North Central Iowa | I recently purchased a 2013 S660 combine at auction. Globe and 2nd screen (e.g. 2630), if it ever had, were pulled out. My current experience is with a much older PF Advantage in the JD9500 and have Trimble 500s w/ EZ Steers for GPS/Steering in various tractors and the JD9500 (several unlocked for RTK). Planter is a Kinze w/ a KPM 3 monitor (maxbus seed sensors). So looking to jump several generations in GPS/steering for the combine and eventually also for the tractor I used for planting & spraying (using an EZ Boom for sprayer control). Historically, pieced together all my GPS stuff from used bought off eBay or the AgTalk classifieds. This update for the S660 seems like its heading towards new or mostly new. My understanding is that the S660 is using Ag Leader moisture and mass sensor via the combines CAN network and that with the appropriate Ag Leader modules, these devices can talk with an Ag Leader 1200 (maybe 800 as well). My understanding as well is that Ag Leader's SteerCommand Z2 will work over the combine's CAN bus to control the built-in JD steering valve for autosteering. So a few questions:
1. Can I use the GPS NMEA out from an EZ Guide 500 to feed GPS coordinates to the 1200 and/or the SteeerCommand Z2 and not have to get an Ag Leader 6500 or 7500 GPS? Seems maybe only the original SteerCommand could receive outside NMEA messages not from a 6500/7500?
2. In regards to steering, is there any other practical option besides the SteerCommand Z2? With the integrated valve already in the combine (supposedly), I don't see any reason to do anything different, but thought I'd ask. Z2 much better than original SteerCommand?
3. If I wanted to piece together some of the parts used, seems like options are limited for availability. Seems like the 6500 GPS's are showing up with some used. Original SteerCommand as well. Anything else? Fair number of parts and pieces to pull together as well after reading through some of Ag Leaders installation kit manuals.
Been talking with an Ag Leader dealer and meeting next week, but trying to learn more about possible options on an effective system.
Appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks. | |
