EC SoDak | Unruh and I chat a bit and I thought it was fun what he did last year with the “Guess the final yield.” I’ll provide some data from before (I posted on this field before this season), now, and updates/pics through harvest. I have a scale for trucks and a good moisture tester, so we can get this dialed in well.
The attached is what I pulled tonight on a stronger field of mine. I’ll post earlier season pics in reply to this post. Using Pro Farmer math, via what Cyclone88 posted was their methodology: 21.33 rows around, 8.08” in length, and 47 final plants in 30’ (averages for all these if you’re wondering) and 30” rows.
(21.33x8.08x47)/30=270 bu/ac
6” of rain since frost came out pre Aug 4 storms, about 10” now (most of the 6 to 10” jump coming that Aug 4-5 storm), typical average would be 16.5” at this time. It took hail late July but had Trivapro and insecticide applied a few days before the hail storm. Strong manure history, planted at 34k, Mustang 5800 (100 day corn) planted on April 30th into cool soils. Red pin shows where todays samples came from.
I’ll post some pictures periodically and then when it’s harvest time I’ll have y’all make your guesses then. Not sure on the prize yet, but I’ll make it a nice one.
Let me know if you have questions!
