Eastern NC | I have been following a lot of posts on here that relate to cotton production. As a cotton producer from NC I was almost convinced that 2009 would be my last season for cotton because it seems that I am operating at a break even point every year and it requires twice as much money per acre than I spend farming soybeans. It also requires a heck of a lot more trips across the field in a year. Now this year we have a better than average cotton crop and soybean prices are considerably lower than last year so I am confused. There is potential to make money with cotton if you have a good year but it seem like those are few and far between. I do know that there is something to be said for diversity in the crop mix. Let me hear some other opinions from other areas. | |
