WCMO-SWMO Area | Heres some more awesome corn ears from a 160 acre corn field in the SW area of Missouri...Most ears were picked only 12 rows in but the farther you go in the worse it is..Lots of stalks dont even have ears...It was a 100% perfect stand..A few low spots have better ears than those pictured..This field got 9 inches of rain on it from planting until denting..Half of the rain fell in early-mid May..On June 25th it still had 175 bushel potential..By July 25th it was toast as it was so hot and dry...It's appraised at 10 bpa but it could make a little more than that??I'm sure that the test weight would be great...I'm in an area that gets 45 plus inches per year...This year we've had 18 inches so far..
You can go 30 miles away and in some lucky areas there will be much better corn....Some will only take a 20-30 bushel hit on APH while others are going to take a 120-130 bushel hit....The rains have been so spotty..Last year it was the almost the same story as it quit raining on June 1st.
Lets go back to 2014 when this same field was in corn...It was a dry year with only 32 inches of rain..The corn was a perfect stand and received 12 inches of rain from planting to dent...When we needed a rain we got it and it made an unreal 200 bpa which was 60-65 bu over APH...It never got real hot..We can grow good corn here and most years we average 130-150 bpa with a few doing 160-170...Our soil vary's lots in just 10 miles...Most of it doesnt hold moisture real well.
Thats a 3" long deep well socket by the corn.
