Subject: RE: Budget rtk receiver?

New Zealand
For mapping I use a free app called SW Maps. I just use the receiver with my Android phone. It connects via bluetooth. The receiver in this device is actually working out of the box. It comes with an antenna, but I just added a better one. and a big powerbank for power. It will last for days or months, depending on use. I actually have a similar receiver with a 9" tablet mounted on it, but I never use it. I find my phone display being large enough, and I always have it with me, and it has a data connection.

The app can export the files you see in the picture. I normally use shapefiles and import them into good old Farmworks. The app can upload to a Google Drive, so getting the mapped data to a computer is relatively easy.
For those people who may use Trimble Ag Software with the Mobile app, this setup will allow you to get RTK positioning in the Trimble Ag Mobile app, as long as the device is android based.

The receiver is Ublox F9p. I got this one from Ardusimple with a bluetooth module already added to it.
The sparkfun f9p will do the same thing, but will just need a bluetooth module added to it manually. I have a relatively easy way to do that too, as I have a few of those boards.

My RTK source for this receiver is a base I have set up myself, running Ntrip. I had to do that to get the receiver to align with the commercial radio based RTK Network we are using on the farm. But it will run from a CORS network, as long as the corrections are RTCM

Edit: Wildbuckwheat, I added bluetooth to a Sparkfun f9p board before. Not too hard. I bought a uart xbee socket board and a hc-05 (same as what Ardusimple uses) from the internet, soldered the xbee board pins to the Sparkfun f9p, and set the baud rate to 38400. Then it works. I have a picture somewhere. Getting rid of the usb cord is really nice.
