Subject: Help with diesel in coolant, Cummins ISM

New to me truck so dont know much history. 05 International with cummins ISM. 445k miles. I do know egr valve and injector 2 were replaced within the last year or two.

Had some sort of fluid, 1-2”, on top of coolant in the resevoir tank when i bought it so I was aware. I really couldnt tell by looking at it or smelling it whether or not it was diesel. I suspected it might be diesel but hoping just dirty/cross contaminated.

Before we drove it home we siphoned off almost all of what was floating on top out of the resevoir tank. That put the reservoir tank at the low line.

Drove it about 200 or so miles and and it still looks the same in the tank and the level hasnt come up in the tank at all. Drove good since then. Sat a few days and did have some smoke at start up but not alot by any means.

If the head or injector cup was leaking somewhere to put fuel in the coolant wouldnt it have showed up in that reservoir tank? Either having a more noticeable floating layer or filling up the tank?

Im hoping maybe it was just contaminated at some point but how do I go about diagnosing for sure. Easy things I can do before pulling injectors and doing pressure test?

Can you cummins guys give me an education on an 04-05 ISM?

Thank you.
