New Mexico | If your a good bull shopper you can buy a decent young bull for say $950 tp $1,200 wieghing say 1,050 to 1,150. There's general pressure on the young bull market this year because there are less beef cows which need bred.
More folks have quit the business the past couple years and especially this past year.
That said, buy your young bull, and he'll grow big for the 2 years you use him which are 010 and 011.
2012 sell him and he should weigh in say the 1,600 to 1,700 range. At 65 cwt then you've got your original money back, thus the use of the bull was actually his feed costs.
Go right back in, buy another young bull non related and grow him up while using him for breeding for the next 2 years etc.
Some of the best cowherds are those folks which use Angus bulls for 2 years, then switch to Hereford bulls for 2 years, then back to Angus etc.
