My backwoods and or redneck way is to take a tape measure and a regular sized 5 gallon bucket. If you fill the bucket with ears after the kernals are close to black layer in a 17ft 5inch stretch it usually means that area is 200+. Average several different spots . 1/2 a bucketful or less is going to suck, if you have something to feed all the better with this method.
