back in my homesteading days I would run our stuff through a chipper or an old gehl chopper I had. Packed it in feed sacks then put those in plastic trash bags. Started out just leaving at that but later on I would use an old vacuum to remove the air from the bags.
Lots of work but it made decent feed.
