Subject: RE: What is cake?

Rome, KS
In the Flint Hills of KS and Osage Hills of OK it is a 3/4 to 1" by 1 1/2 to 2" pellet that is about 20% protein. Contains grain, vitamin and minerals and some sort of protein to make it 20%. It is fed on the ground wherever the cattle are wintering. Cleaned up well because of the size. The "old cowboys" will scoop it off the back of pickup or wagon pulled by team. "New" cowboys have "cake feeders" on back of pickup to automatically dispense feed. Cake feeder is just a 1000-2000# box with auger in bottom.
