WC IL | Scouted several fields yesterday as well. I’m quite a ways south of you along the west edge of the state. Not much leaf disease present, but leaves still show the K deficiencies that showed up before the rain did, plenty of corn with bottom 3-5 leaves fired from N deficiency. A bit hard to tell right now, but fairly confident the last 3 days aborted plenty of tip kernels, will be better able to evaluate in a week or so. My corn is also a couple feet shorter than normal, and plenty of sun hitting the ground. Nobody brings up the days when we’ve had way below maximum photosynthesis due to either cloudy or smoky skies, not all GDU’s are created equal.
Beans are very short early April beans barely knee high, late April beans 6” shorter. Have not seen any beans with over 13 nodes, most are at 10-11.
.3” rain Friday night produced a wet circle maybe 6” across at the base of corn stalks that was gray before 8AM. Corn fields were rolling yesterday by 11 AM.
County fair is this week, usually rains at least one day during the fair. APH yields are a pipe dream here, even though some still think they have an exceptional crop. Most of those guys scout from the coffee shop and the pickup seat. | |
