| Nothing wrong with a Powder River loading chute. Steps are no problems, unless you never clean them off and rot them out. Weaned calves right off cows load right up them, never a problem. Only problem with older Powder River is like the one in picture, the tongue is a T- frame, has a big pipe pin that goes in from side. Need two people to install it, one person can do it, but not easy. The old wheel crank on left side to raise and lower, can be a arm breaker.
New chutes use a winch to adjust, and uses a chain to set hight. That is nice about them. They need to weld a chain from backside of bottom of stand legs on each side. Then run them up at a 45° to floor weld a chain hook to hook that chain. The propose of that chain is to keep truckers from folding legs under chute when they hit them too hard. We install those chains on all Powder chutes we have.
If you find a good older Powder River, you can change hitch like the newer ones have, also change winch to lift it. If you build your own needs to be about 14' long and minimum of 30" wide. Also nice to have a truckers door on left side.
