North West IA/western AZ | We got back from our 2 week trip to the UK Friday about noon. I turned the water on and started the water heater. We then spent time moving back in had lunch. My wife went to the utility room to start a wash but found water trickling out of a full washer tub (front load). Of course the floor was covered in water and it was coming out the door onto the hall carpet. After cleaning that all up and putting a fan on the damp carpet, I decided to check the adjacent room that shared a wall. The closet and bedroom both had wet carpet. I pulled the carpet and padding back to find a wet subfloor The carpet and padding have now been removed and fans are blowing to dry the floor. How long should we leave the subfloor exposed with fans blowing on it before we can get new carpet down? The subfloor is 4 x 8' tongue and groove 3/4" chip board. It was put down in 1997.
