I ground more off of it after the dry fit pictures were taken. There is more of a gap now but I'll keep an eye on it.
I wonder how effective the zerk/greasing will be as it does not appear that a groove was cut through the splines to allow grease to flood all the splines. Will be interesting to see how long your repair will extend the life of the shaft.
