I've seen it done when the corn is spiking not 2"-4". It burns everything it touchs and at 4" i think you would effect yields. I use a culivator to sidedress its slower but gets the N close to the row and covered. Drops on a sprayer works good too. Just attach a hose to the drop and direct the N away from the corn.
