Southeast Colorado | A decade or so ago I bought a 40' JD 1890 air drill on Auction Time. It was the kind with a tow between 270 bushel cart. It was 830 miles from me back in Illinois, but I had talked to the owner and they had agreed ahead of the sale that they could tear it down and get it up on a truck. Well, after the sale they decided it would be too much work. They did offer my money back, but also started looking for someone else to haul it. A neighbor of there's finally agreed to TOW it with a day cab truck.
He had a few extra wheel/tires along with a few tubes of grease. When he got here he had only replaced one of the implement tires............and everything else looked good. I was worried about the big diamond tread tires on the cart, but they didn't show any wear.
The driver got here way before we had planned. He said he had driven the first 4 or 5 hours under 25 mph because it would start bouncing. After a while he got tired and decided to go faster. He said it smoothed out at about 40 mph and he drove the rest of the way between 40 and 50 mph.
Anyway, the drill did have the 11L-15 12 ply implement tires. Not the knobby tires a lot of them have. And they made an 830 mile trip carrying a pretty dang heavy implement. | |
