twraska - 4/20/2023 18:35 Looking at a bigger sprayer to increase our spray capacity. (We already own 3-400 gallon machines, and will keep at least one, maybe two for wet conditions). We went from a Rogator 1286 to multiple smaller machines due to excessive ruts in soft conditions. It seems the Deere 4940’s can be had for less money with less hours than the 4730 or 4830. What gives? Also, are the R series better balanced than the 30’s? If so are the ruts noticeably less? Or just better traction in hills? Any and all comments appreciated. Thanks Tim
We’ve run almost every sprayer from the 4710 up to our current 616R. 49s are heavier but better balanced than the 47/4830s. So much see we never got stuck. Always got stuck with the 4830. The R series are better balanced yet especially so with carbon fiber booms. Also, the command drive on the R series alone makes them worth it over the older series.
What is command drive? How do the carbon fiber booms hold up? The couple I ran across had been patched on.

We've run carbon fiber booms the last 4 years.  First 2 years on a R4060 and last 2 years on a 616R.  We did break the end off on the right side on the R4060 but it was our fault.  And since then they have improved them or that's what I have been told anyway because they did some pips on them.  Command Drive they went to one pump and is suppose adjust the flow to each wheel as one slips.  But the big thing is the engine also only runs as fast as it needs too.  Unless I go up a hill our sprayer runs around 1,500 rpms going down the field.  Quieter for sure but the fuel savings is huge.  Doing five gallon work I get an additional 400 acres per fuel fill over a R4045 with some left in the tank.
