I just don't understand how the ventilation in the barn could possibly have failed so badly or been so poorly designed to allow that kind of buildup. There must have been so much the air itself burned otherwise I can't see how there'd be the flammable material in the building to fuel a fire enough to kill every animal in there.
If it was that bad, the gas cloud should have been most concentrated at the ground, would think the cows would have been dead from asphyxiation by the time it was potent enough to get that concentrated of a blast, hard to believe on a dairy that size all the employees were cleared out and not impacted, I think one was injured. There had to have been employees all over that place 24/7 and a cow could probably take more impact force than a human. Whats the chances all the employees were out of the building in the middle of the day on that size of dairy. Nothing adds up on the deal. Much more to the story.

+1

I suspect their insurer will be digging pretty deep on this one.

Uh, yeah. Back of the napkin math says this could easily be a $50 million dollar claim. For that kind of cash the insurer will be looking at everything. There’s probably going to be a whole new book of rules for getting dairies insured, wouldn’t surprise me if it’s the end of dairy facilities with that much risk under one insulated roof.
