As others have said, it really just depends on the Quality of the diesel (at least on the older heaters) good quality diesel such as co-op Ruby Red or dieselx4 will burn well and pretty clean. Lower quality #2 will soot and maybe even not light reliably. In my opinion, if you cant burn the same fuel in the heater that you burn in your equipment, you better be looking for some better quality fuel somewhere.
