| The main active ingredient is most likely Sodium Hydroxide. This is what is mixed with animal fat to create soap. Drain cleaner is the same thing, but Sulphuric acid opens drains also, so read the label for chemical content. Don't use the acid. Chemical supply houses will usually stock it in 5 gallon plastic or metal cans. Usually a lot cheaper in bulk. This stuff is much stronger then the already diluted stuff. I use a little in the wash to get greasy coveralls clean. It does take a little while to saponify the oils, so needs to be left on longer than petroleum based solvents. Always wear good gloves, and eye protection when using lyes and caustic sodas, super high on the PH scale. | |
