This year we barely made black layer, thats if you planted the 3rd week in april with 92 to 98 day corn. This is with conventional tillage.
If you would have waited until the soil was fit for no-till the corn would have never made it to black layer, you would have had JUNK for corn.
You would have lost bushels, the corn would have been wetter than you know what and test weight dock would have been severe.
In our black sticky clay soils on the cold buffalo ridge have to be tilled to make any kind of crop period.........
This is from someone that tried no-till.... doesn't work here period........ go south 100 miles whole different ball game.
