DieselDennis - 3/14/2023 11:34 Great cow. I do have to ask, was she planned? How many people down there are mixing Holsteins and Brahmas ? What were they aiming for when they did this?

It’s kind of a long story.
This cow was planned,in the late eighties and through the nineties my parents were really serious about the breeding of our dairy cows, mom studied all the bulls and bought the semen and dad did the AI’ing,My mother grew up on a dairy and my grandpa on her side always had a beef herd too,he had a red Brahma bull when she was young and she always liked the red Brahma. She decided to buy a straw of semen from a good red Brahma and dad bred one of our Holsteins. She was born in 92 and raised with the rest of the heifers in that group, bangs vaccinated and everything,The reason her horns are kinda weird is my brother put some dehorning paste on her when she was young and didn’t work but they grew out funny .She was bred when she got old enough and even milked her in the dairy barn on her first lactation,my brother that milks didn’t like her,she wasn’t real crazy but she wasn’t dairy barn material either,he just put her on calves instead of milking her.On her third calf he was tired of messing with her,he told me one evening that I needed to haul some culls to the sale barn the next morning, when got there to load cows he has her and her calf in the pen with the culls,I said damn moms gonna be pissed, well mom came outside and saw her in the trailer and she wasn’t happy, on the way to the sale barn I called her and told her that I’d buy her so when I got to the sale barn I left her in the trailer and went by another man’s place who knew more about cow prices than I did, my mother and I agreed to let him set the price,he told me that her and the calf were worth $700 so I bought her for $700.I kept in our woods pasture for a number of years and I had her in my grandpas pasture for a while.I bought a place of my own and moved her and all my cows there in 2015.
Her calves have always been either calm enough to pet or absolutely crazy, all the cows I have out of her are excellent momma cows, plenty of milk and raise a good calf.
I did find the posts I made several years ago about her calving,I was off by a little bit, it’s been 4 years since she had a calf .
The last two calves she had were female  but I sold both of them two months ago, they were good looking cows but they were just crazy, hard to pen high headed bitches always keeping two or three others from penning,I got fed up with them and loaded them up.
As far as others making Brahma-stiens the only other I know was my grandpa breeding some of his Holsteins to Brahma bulls when he was planning on going out of the dairy business, they make some tough range cows with plenty milk to raise a calf.
I found the thread from 2019  when she had her last calf and it has a link to the thread from the year before when she was 26 and had a calf.
I did take her to hoof stock genetics and tried to flush her in 2019 but they could only get to one ovary and didn’t get anything out of her.
