Because gear drive internal water pump/bearing failures destroying engines alone weren't generating enough money;) The engineering department thought long and hard on how can we use a ecm and hydraulic oil pressure and sheaves to run a fan...lets make it greaseless then will make it grease able then will make it a dry clutch like a 1960 ski-doo snowmobile...

8000-8010 series a belt every 5000 hours easy...way to easy who wants that...
