We often see MUCH lower wheat stand counts (measured in the early spring) with a single pass of a VT tool, compared to no-till into stalks (heavy corn residue this is). This is because the residue is all on the ground, the soil is loosened and the drill disks don't have a firm base to cut against. Therefore, more seeds are placed into, or on top of residue where they often perish in a hard winter.
