| I agree with the notill being better in moderate to low yielding corn residue in western Kansas. I also have issues with excess residue causing stand issues in my high yielding corn residue. Usually the worst is when I have no-tilled corn into stripper straw - then split the rows on the corn on the next year and then when I go back to wheat I have 4" of dead old residue with 250 bu/ac new residue. I use to burn at this point and plant wheat back and figured the 110 bushel wheat and straw was better than settling for 80 bushel notill wheat, now I disk and VT and then plant and probably get within 10 bushel of my burnt stuff. I seem to be able to get a good stand in the fall on my notill but loose too much over the winter and end up with blank spots where the wheat died from so much residue contact. | |
